Crosley’s Kettle Classic Desk Phone captures the essence of the classic 1930′s European-style telephone. This beauty was originally cast in a heavy duty metal and then later reconditioned in a lightweight thermoplastic giving it a more stylistic approach and curved design. The Kettle Classic Desk Phone successfully combines industrial technology with design-inspired craftsmanship right down to the classic cloth cord. This “fat style” phone features a substantial “hoof” and true to the original incorporates a mechanical bell in the base.

Pros: The phone looks great with antique furniture, and the sound quality is fantastic. Cons: The receiver isn’t designed so it can rest on your shoulder — you have to hold it. The body doesn’t have an indentation in the back (below the cradle) so you can easily pick it up. And the ringer is really loud (authentic, but startling). Overall, we like the phone but a few minor design changes would make it perfect.

Very heavy and well built phone, great ringer sound, brings back the old days … Kids hate it because it has a cord, now I need a black and white TV so I can finally have my phone and TV all to myself.
    Great Phone.

This is a very attractive phone to which I put a lot of effort into finding this style. It’s location in my home is one where it is not used very often. In 3 months it was used less than half a dozen times. I was shocked and extremely disappointed to try to answer a call recently and hear nothing on the other end. The other caller was able to hear me. There was no dial tone. Even trying different lines and phone jacks did not help. There is no damage to the phone. I have been trying to contact the seller: Northstar Electronics, but have been unable to get through on the phone number listed on Amazon or receive a reply via their e-mail contact. Even if I decide to try to have the phone replaced/repaired by the original manufacture, I will be out another $20 for shipping costs they require. This has been a complete waste of money and a total disappointment!
Update: 5/2008-Almost a year later and I never heard back from Northstar Electronics despite many attempts to contact them. I hope the new seller listed on this page is more helpful! I did end up sending the phone to the manufacture (Crosley). It cost me $20, but I did promptly receive a replacement phone which is still working. However, it is not used often and I keep waiting to hear nothing the next time I pick up the receiver. Good luck if you choose to buy.
